+INK CALENDAR

Calendar using the capillary action of the ink on the paper.
“Ink Calendar” make use the timed pace of the ink spreading on the paper to indicate time.
The ink is absorbed slowly, and the numbers in the calendar are “printed” daily. One a day, they are filled with ink until the end of the month. A calendar self-updated, which enhances the perception of time passing and not only signaling it.
The ink colors are based on a spectrum, which relate to a “color temperature scale”, each month having a color related to our perception of the whether on that month. The colors range from dark blue in December to, three shades of green in spring or oranges, red in the summer.
The scale for measuring the “color temperature” that I have used is a standard called ‘D65’ and corresponds roughly to a midday sun in Western / Northern Europe.
The “Ink Calendar” was developed for “Gradual “, an exhibition featuring works, which were evolving during the exhibition time at the London Design Festival 2007

R1 radio by il-gu cha

Il-gu cha has designed an analog radio, the R1 radio, tuning is done by moving the radio from left to right and volume is controlled by rolling the radio forward and backward, watch the video, here. I like this design!
"An analog radio is one of most important product for a blind people. In the using a behavior of how people manipulated rather than burying all of interaction in to the product. So adjusting radio to the right station would require a new kind of manipulation rather than simply tuning a knob.
‘R1’ has designed for them to control the radio more intuitively. By using a wheel structure user can control the radio by physical movement. The ‘R1’ allowed users to turn gadget on or off and to control volume and tuning simply by physically rolling the radio forward, backward and sideways. "

15.000 Pencils become a fair stand

Interior Architect Johannes Albert and Book Designer Helmut Stabe have designed and realised a concept for the Mitteldeutscher Verlag Publishers, which plays with the pencil as give-away, that fundamentally shapes the look of the fair stand.

Visitors can now decide between the taking a pencil but dismanteling the stand at the same time. The simple but versatile writing utensil is turned into a three dimensional pattern that becomes a shelve and the lettering.
Some of the 15.000 pencils are even used as constructional components: 315 pencils keep eight perforated boards in position.

For the years to come, the perforated grid now offers the possibility to re-position the pencils and books in a new way.

Thai artist Wit Pimkanchanapong presented The World’s Slowest SMS Billboard over the weekend at The Night Festival in Singapore curated by TheatreWorks’ Ong Keng Sen. We need more festivals like these in Singapore. For once, I felt culture in this country.
